We're all painfully aware of the mountains of debris piled along the edge of the road. With luck it will be cleared away within the month. Until that happens, we feel it important to mention that visibility can be blocked by debris, so please, please, slow it down. Cars have been observed going far faster than the posted speed limit, which is dangerous even in the best of conditions.

Did you know that traveling at 20 mph, there is a total distance of 64 feet from the time a driver reacts to the need to brake until the car is at a stop. For 40 mph that total distance increases to 168 feet. That illustrates how easy it could be for a pedestrian to be injured and no one wants to see that happen.

So please, slow down.
